Erbitux

Erbitux
Description:
Erbitux® (cetuximab) is an IgG1 monoclonal antibody (MAb) that specifically blocks ligand binding to the epidermal growth factor receptor (EGFR) with high affinity, thereby preventing downstream signal transduction and cellular responses. Erbitux enhances the effects of some common chemotherapy agents and radiotherapy and demonstrates minimal overlapping toxicities with these approaches.

Indications: Erbitux, in combination with other treatment modalities, has shown efficacy in the treatment of a number of solid tumors, including metastatic colorectal cancer (mCRC), squamous cell carcinoma of the head and neck (SCCHN), and non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC). In addition, Erbitux is also being investigated as a monotherapy.

Common Adverse Effect: Erbitux  is well tolerated, the most common side effect being an acne-like skin rash, which generally resolves with time in many patients or on cessation of treatment. This skin rash appears to be correlated with efficacy.
